Basalt
HARDNESS: 8 on the Mohs scale.
MINERALOGY: Volcanic igneous rock whose silica content is less than 52%; granular texture, fine, escoriforme (form slag = rugged and rough rich volcanic materials). Essential minerals that contain it are: calcium plagioclase, pyroxenes, olivine may further contain, magnetite, apatite, quartz, nepheline, among others. It is formed by the cooling of basic lavas.
MYTHOLOGY: The Olmecs of Mexico, Ancient Egypt, and the Rapanui people, they used basalt as a building material. In ancient Egypt was related to the underworld and the restoration of life, they elaborated basalt statues water then put them to transfer them through their healing properties and then used for drinking or bathing in it.
PROPERTIES: It is said that basalt is useful to explore your inner self, stabilizes emotions and moods, helps you to be more resilient under pressure and have a positive outlook on the situation. It is a relaxing and protective mineral.

USES: The basalt is used in construction, development of cobblestones and in the manufacture of statues, as thermal insulation. Used for massage and therapeutic functions, massages and treatments with hot basalt and cold marble are used to tone the skin, stiff muscles, improve circulation... Some therapists use them to apply heat stress points.
