ETYMOLOGY: It comes from the Greek "smaragdos" which means green stone.

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Hexagonal.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Primary or tertiary.

CLASS MINERAL: Ciclosilicatos, family berilios.

MINERALOGY: The emeralds are caused by the coincidence of magma ((molten rock) with flowing weathered rock, so the deposits are in pegmatite rocks, emerald stone is considered the noblest in the beryllium group, they were colored owes to chromium and vanadium, the color is very resistant to light and the action of heat.

 

MYTHOLOGY: In ancient the term emerald encompassed all the gemstones with green color. The  MUZO mines and CHIVOR (Colombia) and were exploited by the Incas, emeralds are found exclusively where was calls TRAPICHE, which are composed of six emerald crystals separated by shale. Its name comes from a similarity to the gears of the mills used for grinding sugar cane.
