The first mention of this mineral, but without giving it a name, is found in the book by Torrubia (1754) entitled "Aparato para la Historia Natural Española", where A large number of "hexagonal" crystals are present, known locally as "torrecillas" located on a hill near the Río Gallo in Molina de Aragón.

Aragonite receives its name from the mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner, who defined it in 1788 based on some specimens from Molina de Aragón in Guadalajara, but erroneously attributed it to Aragón.

Approximate size (width x depth x height): 3.1 x 2.2 x 4.5 cm.
