Massive: when there was no room
The massive habit is the absence of any recognisable shape: a compact mass, with no visible faces or points. It doesn't mean the mineral "didn't crystallise", but that it did so crammed in, with no space to develop faces. Its crystals do exist, but they're so small or so compressed against one another that you can't make them out with the naked eye.
What it's telling you: "I grew with no free space, surrounded by rock on every side."
Examples in the shop:
- Rose quartz, almost always in a mass with no faces
- Lapis lazuli, sodalite and other ornamental rocks
- Jaspers of every variety
