MINERALOGY: Secondary mineral, product of alteration of chalcopyrite and other copper minerals by action of water. As it is a mineral very soluble in water, is why the main deposits are in arid zones of planet, forming crystals that cover the surface of other minerals.
 
MYTHOLOGY: It is extremely soluble in water. The calcanite is the gem that most names have put to the cities, which is why it appears in the Guinness Book of Records.

* Copper (II) sulfate crystals are bright blue and soluble in water and methanol. The method of cooling a solution has been used.
To do this, a saturated solution of copper (II) sulfate is prepared in hot water (about 24 g of sulfate in 50 mL of water). The solution is filtered and allowed to cool slightly. It is then poured into a beaker and left for a full day in a closed box. In addition, newspaper papers are cut out for greater insulation. The next day, one of the small crystals formed is chosen and reintroduced into new solutions, in which they will act as seeds: new crystals will grow on them. This process is repeated several times until the crystals are of the desired size (recrystallization).
