ETYMOLOGY: Its name derives from Khalkedon an ancient Greek and Byzantine city, located on the Asian side of the Bosphorus in the region.

MINERALOGY: The flowers of chalcedony concretions are formed slowly in long fissures of basalt formations, so have a flattened appearance.
