Prasio quartz (green quartz)
ETYMOLOGY: It comes from the Greek "prasius" named for its color, similar to the bright green leaves of the leek.
CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Trigonal.
PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Primary or tertiary.
CLASS MINERAL: Oxides, quartz group.
MINERAL ELEMENTS CHEMICAL FORMULA: SiO2 + Ca2 (Mg, Fe) 5 [(OH, F) SiO4O11] 2.
HARDNESS: 7 on the Mohs scale.
FIELDS: Madagascar, India, Mexico, USA and Colombia, Finland, Germany (Sajonai), Austria, Scotland.
MINERALOGY: The prase is a massive green quartz inclusions because actinolite needles, iron magnesite and lime may be mistaken for some kind of jade or chrysoprase or aventurine, although the latter has a thicker granulate spots or bands appear dark or blackish. The prase quartz formed under hydrothermal conditions in which mass long thin crystals are enclosed.
MYTHOLOGY: The prase is already known since Pliny (I century) knew already as old prasius. In the Middle Ages it was used as a healing stone for bruises mouth and eyes.
