ETYMOLOGY: It owes this name to the first site in the town of Danbury (Connecticut) in USA.
CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Rhombic.
PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Primary.
CLASS MINERAL: Silicates.
MINERAL ELEMENTS CHEMICAL FORMULA: Ca [B2Si2O8].
HARDNESS: 7 - 7,5 on the Mohs scale.

MINERALOGY: The elongated prismatic crystal, isolated, fine and very transparent, similar to a topaz habit is transformed into limestone and hydrothermal veins of low temperature. The crystals are normally milky but is also colorless crystals with pink or yellow tones.
MYTHOLOGY: Danburite was first described by Charles Upham Shepard mineralogist in 1839 in Danbury, Connecticut USA.
