ETYMOLOGY: Phenakos the Greek meaning "impostor", referring to its similarity with quartz.

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Trigonal (short columnar).

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Primary.

CLASS MINERAL: Nesosilicatos.

MINERAL ELEMENTS CHEMICAL FORMULA: Be2 [SiO4].

HARDNESS: 7.5 - 8  on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: Brazil, Mexico, Namibia, Norway, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, USA.

MINERALOGY: The fenacita is a nesosilicato anhydrous is a mineral of the class of nesosilicatos, and within this belongs to the so-called "group fenaquita" usually colorless. The luster crystal structure is not clear the system to belonging to some authors is the rhombohedral type trigonal crystal system, while for others it is the hexagonal crystal system.

 
MYTHOLOGY: It is described by this name in 1833 in the emerald mines of Yekaterinburg in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia).
