Zebra jasper

ETYMOLOGY: The word Jasper comes from the greek term iaspis meaning "spotted stone".

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Trigonal.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Secundary.

CLASS MINERAL: Oxides, quartz group.

CHEMICAL FORMULA, MINERAL ELEMENTS:  SiO2 + Fe, O, OH, Si.

HARDNESS: 6,5 - 7 on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: South Africa.

 

MINERALOGY: Jasper is a microcrystalline quartz, small granular structures, always it contains foreign matter, sometimes in a proportion of 20%, so the variety of jasper, secondarily form penetrating the original solution of silicic acid in argillaceous rocks or sandstones or mixed with plenty of suspended particles, the solidified silicic acid and transformed into quartz sandstone small particles are trapped in jasper, hence its color, drawings and shine.

Jasper is a mineral that can form almost anywhere, as there are a variety of jasper, these can be classified into three basic colors:

YELLOW JASPER: SiO2 + Fe, O, OH Amarillo, sand color, brown.
GREEN JASPER: SiO2 + Fe, Si green light to dark.
