ETYMOLOGY: By the german naturalist Lorenz Oken (August 1, 1779 - August 11 de 1851).

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Triclinic.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Secondary.

CLASS MINERAL: Phyllosilicates.

CHEMICAL FORMULA, MINERAL ELEMENTS: Ca1,5 (Si3 O6 (OH) 3) 1.5 H2O.

HARDNESS: 5 on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: Poonah (India), Germany, Iceland and Greenland.

 

MINERALOGY: In post volcanic hydrothermal origin, appears as tonsils in basalts, is a phyllosilicate of calcium, aluminum and hidratado.Suele not be associated with other minerals such as zeolites, apofilita, prehnite, calcite, quartz and chalcedony.

  
MYTHOLOGY: It was discovered in 1828 on Disko island province Kitaa (Greenland), being named in honor of Lorenz Oken, a German naturalist. Synonyms are underused: bordita or disclasita.
