ETYMOLOGY: Comes from the greek rodon = color pink and jroma = color.

CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Trigonal.

PRINCIPLE OF FORMATION: Secondary.

CLASS MINERAL: Carbonates.

CHEMICAL FORMULA, MINERAL ELEMENTS: MnCO3.

HARDNESS: 4 on the Mohs scale.

FIELDS: Argentina (San Luis, Mendoza) Chile, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Uruguay, Russia.

 
 

MINERALOGY: The rhodochrosite is secondarily how the oxidation zone of manganese deposits. Manganese water and water containing carbonic acid are introduced into the hollow cavities of the stone forming stalactites (stalagmites) rhodochrosite pink or filling cracks, it appears in hydrothermal veins with silver, gold, copper.


MYTHOLOGY: For a long time it was known as manganese spar raspberry spar in San Luis (Mendoza, Argentina) rhodochrosite stalagmites formed in the silver mines abandoned by the Incas since the thirteenth century. Most faceted rhodochrosite weighs 59.65 ct and comes from South Africa.
