ETYMOLOGY: From the Russian area which is extracted: Shunga.

MINERALOGY: The Shungit is composed of organic carbon (carbon 60), comprising fullerenes are the third most stable form of carbon after diamond and graphite, Shungit is the only organic compound containing in its composition all elements of Mendeleev's table. (Contains all terrestrial chemical elements). It is also a  superconductor power (more than gold). The main components that make Shungit a single stone are Fullerenes: Variety carbon crystal whose molecule carries a large number of atoms. A fullerene is a molecule composed of carbon, and may take the form of sphere (buckyballs), ellipsoid, tube (Nanotube) or ring. It is a lightweight fossil carbon.

MYTHOLOGY: Its main site is located in the village of Shunga (hence the origin of the name of the mineral) northwest of Russia in the region of Karelia.
