Watermelon tourmaline
ETYMOLOGY: Turmali comes from the english term, meaning approximately "Stone of various colors." SANDIA = By their appearance.
CRYSTAL SYSTEM: Trigonal.
CLASS MINERAL: Ciclosilicatos.
FIELDS: Brazil, Afghanistan, Australia, Burma, India, Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Zaire, Namibia.
MINERALOGY: The watermelon tourmaline originates primarily in plutonitas acids, specifically pegmatite, where forms large crystals. Through the action of gases containing boron, from the magma on the host rock, watermelon tourmaline can also arise as neumatolítica inclusion (which is generated deep in Earth's crust (plutonic) intrusion of magma, causing impaired petrographic composition of the invaded rocks) then the crystals are included heavily on rock, green tourmaline is made up of different mineral elements, but always has the same structure, the metals are always included in tourmalines and are causing the colored varieties of this mineral, in this case the red nucleus due to traces of manganese as the green outside is iron, chromium or vanadium.
MYTHOLOGY: The biggest fan of tourmaline was Tzu Hsi, empress dowager who ruled China from 1860 to 1908. The Empress used the stone as a notch in pins watch chains, or buttons jackets Imperial Court and important people. The Empress now rests on a cushion tourmaline. The tourmalines were introduced in Western and Central Europe in 1703 by the Dutch who imported it from Ceylon. The tourmaline has both pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties. This means that at both ends opposite charges accumulate under pressure so as to heat it.
PROPERTIES: It is said that tourmaline watermelon builds understanding, provides understanding, love and friendship, this stone instils patience and teaches tact and diplomacy, relieving depression and fear, promotes internal security ,, also helps to understand the situations and expressing intentions clearly, releases the old griefs, tourmaline is beneficial for relationships and helps to find joy in the standings.
CHAKRAS: Heart.
ZODIAC SIGN: Gemini.
USES: Jewellery, meditation, collection, for its piezoelectric properties have industrial applications such as the manufacture of pressure gauges, especially in submarine warfare equipment and instrumentation. This gem was used in the pressure sensor of the first atomic bomb. Brightly colored varieties were made in ancient times used to manufacture polarizers known as "tourmaline tongs".
