Prehnite is a pale green mineral sometimes called the "stone of prophecy" for its ethereal and almost translucent appearance. Discovered in South Africa in the early 18th century, prehnite is used in jewelry and as an ornamental stone, especially in creating cabochons and beads for necklaces. Its soft green color and ability to be polished to a bright finish make it very attractive in jewelry. Additionally, prehnite is appreciated by mineral collectors for its rarity and the geological conditions required for its formation.
